Why not try doing it yourself?

Luise and I are quite creative right now. Luise has discovered a small ‘stitch cafe’ in Berlin-Kreuzberg where you can stitch your own bags, pants, cushions and stuff.

You pay a sort of monthly fee and then you can use their room and machines. It’s called Linkle Stitch ’n’ Bitch Cafe, and is run by a very friendly Dutch woman. She speaks with an awesome dialect, and it is big fun just to sit there and listen to her while waiting for Luise. Meanwhile, I recently tried a workshop in our community center (VHS), where I made a chair out of a single ordinary wooden board. I didn’t know our VHS school could inspire me so much! And they offer a lot of workshops (how to make furniture, paper lamps and so on). I call my chair the 24 Euro Chair – because it only cost me 24 Euro to make and was built in 24 hours.

The Do It Yourself process is what counts. Try it. I am sure that there are similar community centres offering workshops in your area.

When it comes to home design, Prime only has one rule: to try new things. Have a look inside his Berlin home… it’s full of the things he loves
