Hi, I’m Marie. As a student, I came to France from Sweden and never went back! I recently moved into a house in the countryside near Toulouse with my new husband and our two sets of kids.
I have three sons – Edouard, Carl-Johan and Nils. My husband Pascal has twins – Morgane and Adrien. It’s almost like there are two factions, the big ones and the little ones!
I met Pascal almost five years ago. He lived in a flat in Paris with his two kids. I lived in a house in a village outside Paris with my three kids.
When he got this job in Toulouse in the South West France, we decided it was an opportunity for us all to move together.
It was a challenge – the seven of us had never spent more than few days in a row all together. Pascal and I wanted our relationship to go further, but without any negative impact on the kids. We felt a new location would be a neutral base for the family – it would be ideal for a new start.
We were convinced it would work. The kids have been just great, they have adapted quite easily to the move and got settled straight away.
We have rules – they were a necessity from the beginning, but I don’t try to run a tight ship.
My mum used to tell us to do what you could today. You need to prioritise but accept that you can’t do it all – not with five kids getting up to mischief!
