Over the past 20 years, my tastes have changed so much. Now that my kids have grown up and moved on and I have more time for myself, I’m not influenced as much by others, I can think about what I really like. Here’s how I’ve made my apartment in Amsterdam suit me.
My interior design ideas
I’m constantly experimenting with putting different pieces together. I just match things up and see if they go. I don’t obsess over it.
Tip: I discover a lot of my vintage finds online, in thrift stores and at local flea markets.
My study ideas
At the moment, the study, where I write my blog, is my best room. I made an ideas wall using picture rails so I can display inspiring art – and change it easily to suit my mood.
My kitchen ideas
I like having things on display. I prefer open shelving because it’s easy and practical – I can always access the things I need.
My bedroom ideas
I like my bedroom to be an uncluttered, unfussy, simple space where I can really unwind. My walls are free of artwork or photos and I store my clothes in fitted cupboards in the hallway.
Tip: Try something different! I have white metal lockers in my room in which I store bed linen.

Floorplan
This whole area used to be the site of an abbatoir. They knocked down most of it to rebuild, but kept the original warehouse buildings at the entrance. My flat is on the site where the workers’ canteen used to be. Desiree
